In an increasingly digitalised world, our founder James saw an opportunity for technology to be applied in the downstream oil market. Fuel buying could be simplified, he realised, by creating an online marketplace, where buyers could view all supplier prices, live and in one place, before making a transaction.
The benefits of such a platform would be obvious: full market visibility and ease of purchasing would make life considerably easier for fuel buyers. But it had yet to be created.
And thus the idea for OnlineFuels was born. The company became live in 2016, and we’ve been simplifying UK fuel buying ever since. We work alongside the UK’s top suppliers and distributors to make life for fuel buyers as simple, and painless, as possible. Becoming, in the process, the UK’s leading independent oil buying platform.
James launched OnlineFuels in November 2015 after identifying the need to bring buyers and sellers of fuel together electronically. Prior to this he worked for oil wholesaler Mabanaft, where he worked variously in marketing, biofuels, operations and supply roles. His time at Mabanaft provided James with an extensive understanding of the downstream oil market in the UK.
Sophie joined OnlineFuels in October 2017 after working for six years as a senior recruiter. During that time she ran a successful permanent and contracts desk in central London, covering various industries and sectors. Under her current role at OnlineFuels she is responsible for managing relationships with buyers and sellers of fuel while exploring, and maximising, alternate revenue streams.
Joe joined OnlineFuels in June 2017 from Newcastle University, after completing a research project sponsored by the company. He is responsible for helping drive company sales and maintaining existing client relationships, and works closely alongside customers to develop the OnlineFuels product.
Sam joined OnlineFuels to help with all things marketing. With a background in freelance Web Design and Content Writing, he's decided to bring his talents in-house to help drive the OnlineFuels brand!
UX design is critical to the success of any software based business. Mayur is our chief designer, making sure that your experience on the platform is as smooth and simple as possible.
Tavija joined us in 2018 to bring more power to our sales and marketing. Another member of the team from Newcastle University, she is full of talent and energy. She'll be getting to know you all and helping you get the most out the platform.
Alex is a former partner at global energy and commodity trading company Vitol S.A. Originally joining to focus on developing derivative and physical risk management solutions for energy clients and then trading an energy portfolio for the last four years. Prior to this he worked at Morgan Stanley for five years where he headed the European commodity hedge fund business. His attention now is developing his personal energy interests.
Ian is the former COO at Kloud, an Australian company which helps companies optimise their cloud-based platforms. He has a strong track record of developing small businesses in the Technology and Professional Services space. His role at OnlineFuels is operational, and predominantly focuses on company strategy, governance, internal processes, business planning and technology.
Steve has worked in various senior executive positions in the Financial Services sector, most notably as finance Director for Zurich Financial Services and Lloyds Banking Group. More recently he has worked towards building a portfolio of non-executive and advisory roles within the banking and FinTech sectors.
