What do you believe makes you unique as a company?

Prince petroleum is an independent and family-owned company with a true commitment to offering first-class customer service and a real understanding of the fuel supply industry. We pride ourselves on high-quality services, building strong relationships and providing the reliability of supply. Our customers are real people who have real needs from their fuel orders, here at Prince our customers’ needs are at the heart of everything we do.

Give 3 words to describe your company?

Reliable, friendly & competitive.

How long have you been a member of Prince Petroleum?

3.5 yrs but, I have been in the oil industry for 7!

What’s one thing either industry-related or not that you have learned in the last year?

On a not so serious note, something that surprised me was how terrible the Online Fuels Team were at mini-golf… placing in second last and last place, at a recent get together we had.

What is the biggest challenge you face working in the oil industry?

A constant challenge and always a part of the game is securing the best prices possible, especially when competing against much larger scale distributors in the market. Ensuring allocation is a particular pain point for me, as I said earlier, our customers are the core of all decisions. Therefore, I want to be fully confident in all of my contracts as well as spot purchasing to maintain reliable supply to our customers. The automated Trigger Contract feature that the Online Fuels platform offers is extremely beneficial for this particular challenge, it allows me to get the most competitive price following the live market, while simultaneously giving us the guaranteed volume so we can ensure reliability!

What is your favourite part of your job?

All of it. I’m not trying to brag, but I really do enjoy all the different aspects of my role here at Prince Petroleum. From the fast-paced buying and price following on the live market, to developing long-lasting customer relationships or ensuring drivers are fully equipt to lift and even problem solving when things don’t always go to plan… keeps things interesting! I like that no day is the same as the one before in this industry.

If you could do another job for just one day, what would it be?

I would be the opening batsman for England Cricket in the Ashes… they couldn’t really play much worse!

Any advice that you would recommend to someone new to the industry?

  1. Listen
  2. Develop product and industry knowledge to utmost depth, this will be invaluable in your day to day working knowledge.
  3. Don’t ever promise something that you can’t deliver on.
  4. Understand your customers to the highest degree, this is essential.
  5. Enjoy it!

How has Online fuels platform affected you and Prince Petroleum?

The scope of the Online Fuels platform has allowed Prince Petroleum to reach a larger network of suppliers, building new relationships to facilitate our growth and development. The Size of our fleet is increasing, with more capacity in build. Part of our business is Texaco Branded, another recent development, in our established supply relationship with Valero.

The platform’s efficient access to the live market enables fast-paced buying and instils confidence in myself when quoting prices to my customers. I can see the live price on the screen in front of me and with the click of a button I have fuel-ready to collect or even be delivered directly to my customers using the new delivered in feature.

Thank you to Matt and the team at Prince Petroleum for sharing their story.
